This Week in The Universe #6

This week in WWE was an interesting one to say the least! No.1 contenders matches, a 2-out-of-3 falls match in the Cruiserweight division and a HUGE revelation that changes the course of 'The New Era' in WWE. Lets begin!

The opening promo of Raw this week was really good. Some great character development from Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins as Rollins is continuing to try and mend fences with his former Shield Brother. The Miz and Miztourage attacked to beat down the faces setting up a 3-on-2 Handicap Match for next week. Should be interesting to see more character development. Bayley and Alexa Bliss had a solid match with interference from Sasha Banks and Nia Jax. Bayley got the win on Bliss setting up a match between Bayley and Banks next week to decide who faces Bliss for the title at SummerSlam. Another big match set up for next week! Mustafa Ali & Jack Gallagher Vs Brian Kendrick & Drew Gulak was short but put over Ali. Nice to see no purple ropes this week. Enzo Amore cut a promo which was fine bringing out Big Show and then Big Cass who brawled after their showdown last week. Finn Balor & Elias Samson had a rematch from last week which Balor won clean but this week Balor won by DQ after taking a nasty guitar shot from Samson. Bray Wyatt appeared revelling in Balor's pain seemingly setting up a match between them for next week. Meanwhile we got another match booked for next week with Balor & Samson going at it in a No DQ Match. Akira Tozawa & Ariya Daviari was stopped by Titus O'Neil as Tozawa was taking serious damage to his arm but wasn't giving up. They will have a rematch on 205Live. Kurt Angle revealed his big secret which was that he had a secret son and he is...Jason Jordan! Well this was unexpected!! I'm sad to see American Alpha break up but I'm all on board with a push for Jordan. Also big props for Angle's acting which sold me on this whole segment. Next we had a really good tag match between The Hardy Boyz and The Revival. Both these teams are great and The Revival got a cheap win which should set up some more matches between these two I'm fully on board with! MAIN EVENT TIME! Roman Reigns Vs Samoa Joe had a great match to decide who would challenge for the Universal title at SummerSlam. Reigns and Joe seem to have really good chemistry and I'm excited to see more matches in the future between them. The finish was a bit predictable as Braun Strowman came out and destroyed both men. Could be setting up a 4-way at SummerSlam but will hopefully get some answers on what should be a bumper show next week!

This weeks Smackdown Live opened with WWE Champion Jinder Mahal along with The Singh Brothers delivering on their promise to bring the Punjabi Prison to SD Live. It is a very impressive structure! The Singh Brothers explained the rules and Jinder got massive heat from the fans talking in Punjabi. Randy Orton came out and delivered one of his best promos for some time talking about how he has nothing to lose this Sunday at Battleground. This should be a hell of a fight and I think Mahal will retain. Jimmy Uso Vs Kofi Kingston was a fun match and it reminded me just how good these guys. Jimmy got the surprise clean heading into Sundays match and I think the Usos will probably retain but through nefarious means! Chad Gable had a sit down interview with Renee Young giving his thoughts on Jason Jordan being Kurt Angle's son. He seemed to say he would be supportive of Jordan but there was a hint of him being angry about it so will see where it goes. Sami Zayn Vs Mike Kanellis was a fun but short match. Mike's jacket with Maria's face on was fantastic! The finish with Maria getting in Sami's way and Mike sort of being the damsel in distress was really interesting and different. Mike got the win with a Samoan Driver which I believe JBL referred to as 'The Power of Love'. A rematch is set for Battleground and I'll be surprised if Mike doesn't win again. John Cena came out and pretty much buried the Battleground card saying his Flag match against Rusev will be the match everyone remembers. Cena referencing 9/11 was really not cool in my opinion. This is the kind of Cena people hate. It got to the point that when Rusev attacked I was cheering for him. I really hope Rusev wins at Battleground but I wouldn't be surprised if Cena won. Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair had a really good match that Becky won making Charlotte tap out to the Dis-Arm-Her. They referenced earlier in the night how Becky hasn't beaten Charlotte so it was good to see her get the win. After the match Natalaya, Lana & Tamina got involved in a brawl building up to the 5-Way Elimination match at Battleground. Any one of them could feasibly win but I think either Becky or Charlotte win and will face Naomi at Summerslam. Another funny backstage segment with Breezango this week with 'The Fashion X-Files' with some great references to X-Files and Seven. We will find out who has been targetting them recently at Battleground. I would be happy if its Harper & Rowan back together or a team from NXT. MAIN EVENT TIME! AJ Styles/Shinsuke Nakamura Vs Baron Corbin/Kevin Owens. Really good match from four guys who are doing great work right now. It was hard to predict as there were alot of believable near falls. Eventually Owens got the blind tag and took advantage Superkicking Styles when he was trying for the Styles Clash and then got dropped with the Pop-up Powerbomb for the win. Owens and Styles should have a great match Sunday and Styles will retain. Also I expect good things from Corbin and Nakamura and Nakamura will win continuing his current singles win streak.

The Brain Kendrick opened the show with a match against Devin Bennett who was also from Jack Gallagher's hometown Manchester, England. Kendrick basically used this as an excuse to send a message to Gallgher and made Bennett submit to the 'Captain's Hook'. Akira Tozawa & Ariya Daviari had their rematch from Raw which was a really good back and forth physical match. Daviari worked on the injured shoulder and got a series of near-falls. Tozawa did manage to counter to get the win but was launched into the ring post after the match. MAIN EVENT TIME! Mustafa Ali Vs Drew Gulak in a 2-out-of-3 falls match which was really entertaining. The match started pretty even and Ali got the first fall after rolling him up. The match started to take off with Ali executing a Frankensteiner off the barricade where he hit hard. Gulak pulled Ali off the top rope and trapped him in the Dragon Sleeper to get the win and tie up the match. The third fall was frantic with some great near falls and great action. Gulak tried to go for a top rope move going against his No-Fly belief but in the hesitation Ali took down Gulak with a Hurricanrana and got the win with his amazing Inverted 450 Splash. Great match!

This weeks NXT kicked off with a HELL of a match between Ruby Riot and Ember Moon. The Women's division is in a really exciting place right now between NXT, the main roster and the upcoming Mae Young classic. Ember wins the match with 'The Eclipse' and it looks likely that she will challenge Asuka at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III. Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami are backstage arguing again and this sets up a match between them for next week. That should be good! Another hell of a match between two guys who have always been enhancement talent in NXT.  Danny Birch and Oney Lorcan had some a great match that had the fans demanding more. Lorcan won with a Single Leg Crab and after the match they agreed to one more match. YES!! No Way Jose beat Cesar Bononi in a relatively short match. The crowd is still really into Jose and after the match Andrade Almas came out and challenged Jose which seems to be where they are going between them. MAIN EVENT TIME! No.1 Contenders match for the NXT Championship between Drew McIntyre and Killain Dain. This was a physical back and forth match with both men I think looking good. Both men kicking out of each others big moves until Drew finally put Dain away with a second Future Shock DDT. Drew will now challenge Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship at Takeover: Brooklyn III. I though this was a really good show this week!
